What does an artist mean to you? How would you describe them in few words? Are they crazy, inspiring, happy? What is their life like, and how were they given world fame? Is their path so simple? In this article I will share with you films dedicated to the lives of these wonderful people.
The movie I'm going to start with is probably my favorite. This is the film by Julian Schnabel "On the threshold of Eternity", 2019. The plot reveals the life of the world-famous and sensational artist Vincent Van Gogh with his exuberant biography. We all know this name, but what does it tell us? Was he as crazy and obsessed as the whole world thinks he is to this day? How did he live, what did he feel, what did he believe in? This film, like no other, reveals the inner world of the artist, opening the door to his secret, and still incomprehensible by anyone, life story.
The next film reveals the fate and life drama of the artist Frida Kahlo. The film is called "Frida", directed by Julia Taymor, a 2002 film adaptation. It tells about the difficult fate of the artist, who lost her health at an early age. Despite the pain that constantly tormented the girl, she did not stop creating. Her paintings became a reflection of her inner world. This is a film about the incredible courage, firm character and willpower of a Mexican artist, telling us that there are no borders.
And the last film, which is no less fascinating and absorbing than its predecessors - "Michelangelo. Infinity", by Italian director Emanuel Imbucci, 2017. Michelangelo is known to most of us as the sculptor and author of "David", as well as the artist who painted the entire ceiling of the famous Sistine Chapel - a colossal work and a work of art that conquered the whole world and every heart. Michelangelo pursued perfection all his life. It was important for him to create something new and previously unseen by the human eye. This is what he did, but the price was his own life. In the film, the artist conducts an eternal monologue with himself and with the world around him. The viewer seems to get behind the scenes of the life of the largest Italian Renaissance artist and lives with him every minute of his life, filled with ups and downs.
